Department of Psychology
This course has been designed to provide a broad introduction to the scope and nature of psychology as a science. The emphasis is on applying knowledge & understanding rather than simply acquiring knowledge, thereby developing students’ transferable skills of analysis, evaluation and critical thinking.
The study of psychology can contribute to students’ understanding of spiritual, moral, ethical, social & other issues.
Furthermore, it engenders an awareness of the variety & complexity of the human condition in terms of mind, behaviour & relationships.
It promotes understanding of self, others, moral behaviour & thought as well as cultural differences & similarities.
At AS, the course offers a broad range of topics with research methods in context.
At A2, there is a range of topic-based options which bring together explanations from different approaches and engage students in issues and debates in contemporary psychology.
Teachers can select a route through the A2 to suit the needs and interests of their students.
It is possible to store the mind with a million facts and still be entirely uneducated.
